Our trip to Heidelberg – our diary

DAY 1

The morning started early at 5:40 AM this morning as we were greeted by half alive students (and their parents) and two teachers who pretended to be half alive. We spent about two hours at the airport impatiently waiting for the forthcoming adventures.

Today our students travelled by all possible means of transport (a plane, trains, buses) and survived our journey bravely. At 12:30 we finally reached our destination – Heidelberg, a small, picturesque city.

Our German partners welcomed us very warmly and hosted with self-prepared, delicious lunch. After that we sat down in a circle, had an organizational meeting for the week, cleaned up together like a real Montessori family. Mr Szymon and students from our school presented our new friends parts of the community meeting, thanks to which we could pass our Montessori traditions and share impressions and remarks from the journey.

The next day in Mannheim looks promising as we are going to admire the German National Garden Show and we have been invited for ultimate frisbee competition in the evening. We are looking forward to these events!

DAY 2

We had a busy and adventurous day. It started with the community meeting at the school (apparently our German friends were inspired by this idea which we consider a small success). Then we went on a trip to Mannheim to see the German National Garden Show -BuGa. We were delighted with the variety of colorful plants and creativity of presenting them in an original manner.

After that we had another great opportunity to spend pleasant time surrounded by nature in Luisenpark (there were many animals too!). We chose our favorite pizzas and enjoyed every single minute chatting and playing. Before leaving Mannheim we had a little time for shopping and sightseeing.

Some of us participated in ultimate frisbee training and the rest spent time with their host partners who are doing their best to provide us with many interesting activities.

Tomorrow we are going to take part in printing projects, it sounds so exciting!

DAY 3

Today our German partners proved that time at school doesn’t have to be boring. We were supposed to design our own patterns for the letter bags that we received as a part of the “printing project”. Jakob, a teacher from Montessori Zentrum, professionally works in the printing field so he showed us the process step by step. In the afternoon we enjoyed our free time in the school garden where our lunch was served.

Next we had a long walk to the Old Town (Altstadt), where we tried tasty ice-creams. At 4 pm we began our river cruise by the ship “Victoria”. Picturesque landscapes and wonderful weather accompanied us all day. One of our host families invited us to a barbecue and we may assure you that we had lots of fun!

DAY 4

In the morning we had a brainstorm with regard to comparisons and similarities between Warsaw Montessori School and Heidelberg Montessori Zentrum. We feel inspired by our partners who implemented numerous ideas that our students found innovative and worth having. Then there was some time for the farewell which was full of warm hugs and good energy.

Three German students wanted to say goodbye to us in the Old Town, where they told us about the ruins of the old castle which we reached by a fenicular railway. Our next stop was at the restaurant “Hans in Glück” which served delicious burgers. Before we left Heidelberg, we had some free time to buy souvenirs and visit our favorite spots.

Tired but extremely happy we are waiting for our plane which arrives in Warsaw at 9:35 (21:35), we can’t wait to greet you with wide smiles on our faces.
